Jonathan R. Williamson

Jonathan is licensed to represent taxpayers everywhere before the Internal Revenue Service and United States Tax Court and is licensed to practice law in the states of Florida and Georgia.

Jonathan has been a passionate debater since high school, when he joined the debate team. He was recruited to Gonzaga University on a debate scholarship, where he earned a B.A. in Political Science. Jonathan continued coaching debate while earning a M.A. in Political Science from Cal State Los Angeles. In 2016, Jonathan moved to South Florida to accept a position as a social studies teacher and debate coach. Jonathan's students competed at the highest levels of debate, winning a litany of state and national championships. In 2020, Jonathan decided to become a lawyer.

Jonathan earned both his J.D. and LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Florida Levin College of Law. He received a certificate in real estate and land use law. He was the Executive Notes Editor of the Journal of Law and Public Policy. He earned book awards in Pre-Trial Practice and Marijuana Law and Policy. He was the Symposium Co-Chair for the Student National Cannabis Bar Association. He was a member of the First District Appellate American Inn of Courts and the Gerald T. Bennett American Inn of Courts. He was also a Levin Ambassador for the Office of Admissions.

After graduating law school, Jonathan worked for David Aughtry at Chamberlain, Hrdlicka, White, Williams & Aughtry, P.C. as an associate attorney in the tax controversy and litigation practice group.  During his time at Chamberlain, Jonathan worked intensely on litigation and post-trial briefing of JL Minerals v. Commissioner and Jackson Crossroads v. Commissioner before the United States Tax Court and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. His experience  included work on matters involving captive insurance companies, charitable donations of real property, civil tax fraud, conservation easements, Employer Shared Responsibility Payments, estate valuations, gift tax valuations, horse breeding operations, self-employment income, and underreporting of income. Following the submission of the last appellant briefing in JL Minerals, Jonathan left Chamberlain and established Williamson Legal Services, LLC.

Jonathan's practice focuses on serving clients in tax controversies with the Internal Revenue Service. If you receive a letter from the IRS, Jonathan can help you. Jonathan particularly enjoys working on cases related to valuation of real property--such as charitable contributions under Section 170, conservation easements under Section 170(h), and valuation of estates.

Jonathan has an interest in serving cannabis clients, especially those facing a tax controversy related to Section 280E. Jonathan can also provide legal services to cannabis companies operating lawfully under the laws of the States of Florida or Georgia.

Jonathan also engages in preparation of basic wills. Jonathan's pro bono experience includes litigation in probate court over an estate where the decedent died intestate (without a will). His experience in probate court has convinced him to assist others in drafting and executing a basic wills package so that no one will have to
